The Blessing Bracelet

Most of the charms in the bracelet shown are “ex-votos,” commonly known as “milagros.” They originated in various areas of Latin America, especially in Mexico, and are¬† given as thank offerings for blessings received or prayers answered.¬† My friends, Ann and Dick, at Equatoria, have assembled a wonderful collection of these, which they recast in silver and sometimes bronze. I love them and tend to tuck them into my shopping cart whenever I visit their site.

This ten-bead “prayable” bracelet includes nine beautiful little milagros represnting blessings for which we can be thankful. In addition to a couple of¬† crosses, there is a tiny baby, a woman praying, a hand with heart, a hand with cross, and a flaming heart. The natural world is represented by a moon and star and a beaming, smiling sun. I made the bracelet of vivid blue Kingman turquoise interspersed with tiny bits of my favorite spondylus shell.¬† The ten beads make it useable as a rosary bracelet–pick your favorite charm for the Our Father. There is a Blessing Necklace, but it has been sold to a lady who–I hope–is enjoying it.
